Meet Miranda Lopez

I'm Miranda Lopez, a candidate for the Legislative District 21 House of Representatives. I have spent over 8 years publicly advocating for progressive and socialist solutions in my Southern Arizona Community.

I'm ready to bring real change to the locals of Tucson, Arizona.

I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2018 (Bear Down!) and began my career working in grassroots organizing with the statewide Democratic Coordinated Campaign, where I served as both a Field Organizer and later a Regional Organizing Director across two election cycles.

In 2021, I became Executive Director of the Pima County Democratic Party, where I focused on building local infrastructure, supporting candidates, and strengthening community engagement across Southern Arizona.

Today, I work with the Arizona Students’ Association, advocating for students at the state legislature, developing student leaders at the University of Arizona and Pima Community College, and mobilizing young people to take action against harmful legislation.

I believe real change happens when communities are organized, informed, and empowered — and that’s the approach I bring to everything I do.

Miranda Lopez's Priorities

Public Education

Arizona public education has been undervalued and underfunded for decades. Public school districts have been forced to close thanks to the unlimited spending of ESA vouchers, and Arizona public university students receive the least amount of funding per student in the country. Our students deserve fully funded public education to instill critical tools and civic values they can use to transform themselves and their communities.

Protecting the Environment

Our desert ecosystem is battling for survival; many species unique to our riparian areas have already gone extinct. To protect our environment, I will fight against corporate interests that seek to drain and pollute our aquifers. We live on stolen land that has been plundered for resources for centuries - it is time to find sustainable and equitable practices that will preserve our environment for future generations.

State law favors landlords over tenants and makes it difficult for cities to enforce living conditions like indoor temperature and rent increases. Young people in the workforce like myself struggle to find rent cheap enough to save towards buying a house. Arizonans who rent or are looking to buy their first house need support and protection from our state government to ensure a larger, cheaper supply of housing free from corporate interests.
